SA’s Only Junior Regional Choir Seeking New Members

22 October 2012 By Alan Straton

The Eastern Cape junior Children’s Choir (ECjCC) under the leadership of Hanlie Young, will be holding auditions for the 2013 choir year on Saturday 3 November 2012 at Summerwood Primary School. Children from all parts of the Nelson Mandela Metropole and surrounding towns who will be in Grade 1, 2, 3 or 4 in 2013, are welcome to audition.

For more information, visit the ECjCC website www.ecjcchoir.com. Contact the choir secretary Janine at 072 872 6382 or email info@ecjcchoir.com to book an individual audition time. Very young prospective choir members are invited to bring their own teddies along in order to meet Bamba, the official ECjCC choir teddy bear!

The ECjCC practices once a week, on Wednesdays from 15h45 – 17h30, at Cillié High School, their sponsored rehearsal venue.

The ECjCC this year presented the annual Prestige Concert of the Eastern Cape Children’s and Youth Choirs on 14 September (with guest choir the South Cape Children’s Choir) as well as the annual Bamba Festival for junior school choirs in June.

There are several performances left for 2012. The choir will still perform at the Walton Park Retirement Village on 24 October, at Parkheuwel Dutch Reformed Church on 11 November and on 18 November at the National Show Jump at the Aquestrian club, Lorraine.

Previous prestigious performances include sharing the stage with the Estonian TV Children’s Choir in 2009 and with the Stellenbosch University Choir (currently rated 1st in the World) in 2011.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
