SAPS Warn of Conman ‘Recruiter’

GQEBERHA – The South African Police Recruitment department at SAPS Mount Road are warning applicants, who have already applied for a vacancy in the police service, to be wary of a conman who is taking advantage of their vulnerability and naivety.

In the last week, at least 5 aspiring police service applicants (all females) were targeted by a mischievous male who contacted them and informed them to meet him at SAPS Mount Road police station, where he would then transport them to the venue where they will be writing their psychometric tests. Psychometric tests are being written by applicants however, transport is never provided and applicants are informed by the recruitment office personnel of the venue and that transport must be availed by themselves.

Three applicants were from SAPS Mount Road while one was from SAPS Thornhill and the other from SAPS Swartkops. Luckily, the females had gone into the police station and made enquiries before letting the conman know that they were there.

Police are strongly cautioning all applicants, especially women, to exercise extreme caution and verify any communication regarding recruitment procedures. Legitimate police recruitment processes are conducted through official channels, and at no point should applicants be required to meet with unauthorized individuals for tests.

Legitimate correspondence will come from official police service email addresses or phone numbers. Do not agree to meet anyone claiming to facilitate recruitment tests in unofficial or private locations. Legitimate recruitment venues are publicly disclosed and known to all applicants.

If you must meet someone for recruitment-related matters, consider having a trusted friend or family member accompany you. Safety should always be a priority.

If you encounter any suspicious behaviour or receive questionable communication, report it immediately to the local authorities or the official police recruitment office.
