SANRAL hosts workshop to empower SMMEs in Queenstown:

29 June 2016: The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL will host a workshop in Queenstown today, to empower small micro and medium enterprises (SMMEs) with the necessary information and skills to grow their businesses through participation on projects of building and maintaining the national road network and other roads under the jurisdiction of SANRAL.

The roads agency is expecting about 100 SMMEs to attend the workshop, which will be held in the Queenstown Community Hall.

“The objective of the workshop is to provide SMMEs with relevant skills to improve their business development and sustainability,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL Southern Region’s regional manager.
The workshop will cover a number of topics aimed at empowering the SMMEs and to help develop their businesses.

These topics will include:

  • Tenders: SANRAL’s tender process systems, SMMEs inclusion mechanism and also projects in the area.
  • Industry issues: SMMEs will also gain valuable insight into improving communication between various government departments and businesses which will be presented by a CIDB member. “They will also learn the importance of information sharing and construction industry regulations will also be explained,” said Peterson.
  • Tax compliance: A representative will give insight into the importance of tax compliance. SMMEs will be assisted with registration for income tax and other tax-related matters.
