Sanele Shange once again qualifies for the IRONMAN World Championship

Sanele Shange will once again be representing South Africa at the IRONMAN World Championship event – this time in Nice, France on September 10, 2023.

In 2021, Durban born 31-year-old athlete, Sanele Shange, became the first black South African to podium at an IRONMAN African Championship triathlon event. Shange put in an impressive performance that year to grab a podium in Nelson Mandela Bay, finishing in a time of 08:41:12. By doing so, he qualified for the 2022 IRONMAN World Championship which took place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’í.

The 2021 IRONMAN African Championship will forever live in Shange’s memory. He was the first South African to cross the line in his 25 – 29 age-group category, coming second only to French age-group athlete, Antoine Bezault, who only finished three minutes and sixteen seconds faster than him.

Fast forward to 2023 and Shange will again be racing at an IRONMAN World Championship event. This time Shange will be representing South Africa in Nice, France.
