SAMA Award Winning SEQ Bring Sexy Back to Port Elizabeth

28 July 2011 By Alan Straton

South Africa’s spectacular instrumental pop group Sterling Electric Quartet (SEQ) will be returning to The Boardwalk due to popular demand. The instrumentalists performed a sold-out show in December 2009, and will be performing a selection of their hits during their show on Friday August 5 at The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre.

The SAMA winners took the entertainment industry by storm in 2009 with their genre-defying musical style and sensational live performance. The group has shared the stage with musical icons including Boney M, Snow Patrol, Johnny Clegg, Parlotones and Lira, and have entertained local and international celebrities to the likes of Elton John, Annie Lennox, and Lance Armstrong, to name but a few.

Ariella Caira, cello diva of the instrumental supergroup, is particularly excited to return to Port Elizabeth, where she was born. “I think you will always have a special connection with the place where you were born, but PE is especially close to my heart because of the people. It really is the Friendly City!  We have loads of fans there so it’s always a lovely venue for us”.

The group is excited to be returning to one of their favourite cities, “We’ve had some of our most memorable performances here, and always look forward to visiting the Friendly City”, says electric Caira.

Flute virtuoso, Carina Bruwer heads up the band, with ace violinists Eriel Huang and Renate Riedemann making up the rest of the quartet.

Sterling EQ’s performance on August 05 promises to take audiences on a journey down memory lane with well known hits such as Chic Corea’s “Theme from Caravans” and exciting contemporary versions of well-known classics including “Toccata and Storm” (Four Seasons / Carmina Burana medley). Additional South African favourites and original Sterling hits will ensure the audience is highly entertained throughout the show.

Sterling EQ will make their European debut in December 2011, with performances in Germany, while they are also currently finalising negotiations around shows in the USA in October this year.

Sterling EQ will perform at The Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheatre on August 05 at 20h00. Tickets are available from Computicket for R90.

There is something about a girl and a Cello (or was it a flute?). Carina Bruwer, Eriel Huang, Renate Riedemann and Ariella Caira (ex Port Elizabeth)

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
