After the second weekend of the NAFA fixtures Saints football teams have had mixed fortunes. The Seniors premier league side remain unbeaten after a 1-1 draw on 5 May against Glenville on the Glenville field. This past weekend they won 1-0 at home to Wolves but were very unlucky to draw 1-1 against Bloom Callies at Finnis street after a late own goal. The stand out player in the early part of the season is Wayven Campbell who seems to be a different player since last season.
The reserve team on the other hand have got off to a disastrous campaign by losing 3-1 to Glenville, 3-0 to Wolves and 3-2 to Bloom Callies. There was some controversy against Wolves as one of the Wolves players was not on the team list.
In the Junior ranks the U9 remain unbeaten after two goalless draws against Wolves and Lads. The U11have drawn one and lost one also aginst the same opposition. The U13 team has also drawn one and lost one and the U15 is the most successful junior team having won both encounters 2-1. The U15 coach Hennie Rossouw is confident the team will be right at the top come the ens of the season. The U17 team has only played one game and unfortunately lost 5-1.
It is still early days in the league and it seems there are some surprising teams challenging for top honours. It is going to be an interesting season, one to really look forward to.
