In a major coup for Eastern Cape Sport, the Eastern Province Chess Union (EPCU) has secured the rights to hold the National Junior Chess Championships in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth from 13 to 21 December 2011. The event attracts an amazing number of almost 2 000 entrants who will be accompanied by parents, coaches and team management. Organisers are convinced that the tournament will be a major boost for tourism in the area.
Scheduled to start on 13 December at the Indoor Sports Centre of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University South Campus, the tournament will take place against a perfect backdrop of crashing waves, calming open spaces and offer participants the opportunity to enjoy the nature reserve on which the South Campus is located. The final day of play is on 21 December.
Eastern Cape Chess is in an extremely strong position at the moment and the EP team is looking to secure major wins in both team and individual events.
