Dear Editor
As Ivan Goncharov put it simply in his captivating Oblomov novel :- “All rogues write authentically – take my word for it.”, yours truly is therefore often under-estimated for his insight and over-estimated in his age group when it comes to his cursory and layman interpretation of politics. In a nut shell, I am often confronted by albeit no-readers, let alone non-researchers, that annoyingly accuse me of being a Democratic Alliance [DA] or, in their parlance, a ‘White People’s sympathiser’ for outlining the self-paralysis which the South African leadership and general citizenry are busy with; especially after the 1994 elections.
Just like a sangoma [traditional healer], fortune teller, a Tarot-reader and even our beloved charismatic preacher-cum-prophets that are humbly translating what they are seeing in front of their eyes, I am just jotting down and/or voicing what is being deciphered right in front of everyone’s eyes. To the non-first hand readers of my writings, especially the shallow-minded clout-and-relevance seeking jealousy-driven stalkers, I am constantly reprimanded as some grand-standing logophile [lover of words], if not an outright demagogue [someone who is appealing to the prejudices of people rather than coming up with rational arguments], whose very first point-of-call seems to be the electronic & tactile media instead of attending particular and specific party meetings in order to see things in a proverbial ‘collective’ light.
However, as someone who has tried to fit in since childhood, being a free-thinker is not a personal choice as I simply cannot be pigeon-holed or put in a Silo in order to be categorised or managed. Finding meaning in my hitherto unchartered and increasingly solitary journey can therefore be described as that of a hermit [a loner that is carrying a lantern to guide others during darkness] or, quite crudely, being the rogue one.
