Riordan’s “hopelessly flawed” IDP Budget slamming shows ANC ignoring communities

6 November 2015 By Alan Straton

Dear MyPE

The first cracks in Jordaan’s new administration are starting to show.

The ANC government in NMB municipality continues to ignore the legitimate views and input of communities, despite lofty promises from Mayor Jordaan to be open to the public. Cllr. Riordan’s comments in the press today show that he is calling Jordaan out for failing to turn public-participation around.

When the Mayor took office, he committed to taking government to the people but in typical ANC style this has completely failed to materialise. Our communities are in fact further from government and further from being heard than ever before.

As was admitted by Councillor Riordan, the IDP Department under the ANC is “hopelessly flawed”. We agree with Cllr. Riordan, and we believe that this is a failure to bring our people closer to government.

Huge amounts of public money were spent on advertising and venues for the IDP process, with the entire process being cancelled – a double slap in the face to the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.

While the ANC continues to flounder in its attempt to govern this municipality, the people of the Bay are faced with shocking service delivery, rampant corruption and joblessness.

It is time for change in Nelson Mandela Bay, as Deputy President Ramaphosa said in Parliament this week.

The DA is set on winning Nelson Mandela Bay in next year’s election to start delivery, stop corruption and create jobs, and to bring government closer to the people – not further away.

Regards

Retief Odendaal
