There is unprecedented interest in the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees auction thanks to the selection of rare animals that will be on sale, says organiser Johan Swart.
Animals attracting the most interest include 30 disease-free wild buffalo from the Addo Elephant National Park, as well as more unusual animals for which there is growing demand, he says.
They include one of the first groups of white-maned Burchell’s zebra to be offered on a game auction in South Africa.
The family of five is from the Royalston private game reserve in Port Elizabeth.
There is also great interest in “Top Deck,” a rare white saddleback blesbuck.
Another boost for the auction has come from the opening of the border between South Africa and Namibia for the relocation of game.
As a result there is renewed interest in nyalas and bontebok by Namibian game farmers.
More than 600 head of game will be on sale at the auction, with most of the prime game being available for viewing in bomas before the auction.
The bomas are at Shamwari, Riverbend and the Addo Elephant National Park.
The auction will be held from noon on Friday, June 27, in the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees showgrounds, Kirkwood.
