R75 Economic & Political Case Study

18 February 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

The unkempt & deteriorating R75 [or New Uitenhage Road] is a reflection of the indifference, if not outright treason, from the people who are responsible for its neglect and vandalism [The Herald 9 February 2024].

As it is my belief that stereotypes are often based on hard facts, the upkeep and maintenance of infrastructure are seemingly one of the crucial pitfalls of Black South Africans; in government or otherwise. Typically, the throwing away of rubbish anywhere, even within few metres of dust bins or recycling centres, is a daily occurence in our townships whereas it is far & few in-between in the Northern Areas and the formerly White people dominated suburbs; thus also perpetuating the stereotype that there is no single race group that loves South Africa more than the Afrikaner as that particular population sector of our national make-up tend to jealously guard and reprimand any sort of tarnishing the image of our common country.

I have even experienced people originating from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Nigeria etc. repeating what the dubiously venerated white supremacist, Steve Hofmeyr, said regarding Black South Africans whom are almost always aptly portrayed as having an often unfounded sense of entitlement. To me, it is shamefully demoralising and jealousy-inducing to have Equatorial Africans loving this country more than its very own Born & Bred Black citizenry; whom are perceived as endlessly demanding something from the albeit hapless government to change their lot whilst destroying well-being and expansive outlook infrastructure like clinics, libraries, schools, traffic lights, guard & hand rails etc.

Maybe, also the name change crusade that is largelly spear-headed by openly Clout, Fame and/or Relevance seeking and short-sighted, read status-conscious civilians, not forgetting the devil-may-care governmental functionaries that are rubber-stamping those unnecessary enforcements, is a side-show for a quickly diminishing food in the trough that failed to feed the needy despite 30 years of promising to do so by the obsfucating government of national unity cum governing cartel. The said name-changing and strangely selective colonialism relics’ pogrom [or massacre in Russian] can be compared to Nazi Germany, wherein the Jealousy-for-the-Jews phenomenon became an easy trump card for bigots and narcissists; excuse the Nazi pun. Such a devious campaign is currently akin to our very own inter-tribal and racial Jealousy-for-the-Xhosa fad within the Southern African Development Community [SADC] region. Pogrom is thus often used as a battering ram to deflect the ineptitude and lack of ideas from the demagogues in power and their resultant indoctrinees in compensating and/or camouflaging their failure of normalising the betterment of country and general citizenry alike.
