R1.8 Million Forfeiture Order Granted Against Superspar Fraudster

The Gqeberha High Court granted the forfeiture order on 5 December 2023 following the preservation order for shares bought by Jonathan Blow (52) the former accountant and sole director of PE Accounting Solutions (PEAS) on 3 October 2023.The Gqeberha based Asset Forfeiture Investigation of the Hawks under Priority Crime Specialised Investigation received the order on 7 December 2023. Blow was arrested on 24 March 2023 for charges of theft and fraud from his former clients, Sunridge Superspar and Despatch Superspar.

During the period between 3 July 2020 and 19 September 2022. Blow appointed as the accounting officer for Sunridge Superspar and Despatch Superspar was given full access and administration rights to the two entities’ trading bank accounts used in the operation of the businesses in order to effectively render the aforesaid services. In addition to the fees for which he had invoiced the businesses, he intentionally and unlawfully transferred cash to the value of more than R40 million from Sunridge Superspar and more than R11 million from Despatch Superspar to his bank account as confirmed by the investigations of Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks in Gqeberha.

Blow was arrested on 24 March 2023 and was remanded in custody ever since his arrest.

Blow was convicted by the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Gqeberha on 6 September 2023. On 23 November 2023, Blow appeared for pre-sentencing and psychology reports. Blow also received notification of having been struck off the roll of SAICA (South African Institute for Chartered Accountants).

The matter was referred to Gqeberha Asset Forfeiture Investigation (AFI) of the Hawks for probing which in conjunction with the Asset forfeiture Unit (AFU) of National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) secured the granting of the preservation order of his more than R1.8 million shares from his business with his business partner hence the granting of the forfeiture order on 5 December 2023.

Blow appeared in Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crime court on 7 December 2023 and the matter is remanded to 16 January 2024 for sentencing.

The Acting Provincial Head Brigadier Selina Motlalepula Maponya commended the team for securing the granting of the forfeiture order through their expert investigation skills.
