Pupils comment after work shadow day

19 August 2015 By Alan Straton

BWA Work Shadow Day
Most of the sixty pupils before setting off on their work shadow day

On Tuesday, 18 August sixty female Grade 11 learners spent their day following in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela Bay’s leading female business figures in the Businesswomen of Tomorrow work-shadow-day convened by the PE branch of the Businesswomen’s Association.

Quotes from the girls after their work shadowing experience:

  • Elisma du Toit from Andrew Rabie High School visited Lineout Productions. “I am interested in event management, but I can see from my experience today that it entails a lot more than just making a few arrangements.”
  • Corlett Reyneke from Andrew Rabie High School visited Lineout Productions. “I have come to realise how important good relations with people are in the workplace. This work shadowing experience has opened my eyes. I would like to start my own business one day, be my own boss and stand up for myself.”
  • Sandisiwe Base from Ubuntu visited Magnetic Storm. “I learnt about strategic management, marketing, a bit of admin, event co-ordination and sponsorships. This is a great initiative as I could experience how people operate in real life, plan events, put all the detail together and how they do quotes.  Sometimes calm, sometimes hectic, not routine.”
  • Malibongo Masoka from Woolhope Ubuntu visited PriceWaterhouseCoopers. “I want to be an accountant as I have a passion for it. I have learnt that it is not just sitting in an office and do paperwork, you also go out and meet clients and travel. This is a wonderful experience for girls to be exposed to the workplace.”
  • Zintle Mawu from Masiphatisane Secondary School (Vision 4) visited Revive. “I want to become a social worker. Today I have learnt about helping people, changing the world. I never thought I could do that but now I have experienced it. It makes me very excited.”
  • Ilana Joubert from Andrew Rabie visited SEDA ICT. “I actually want to become a teacher, but today has opened my eyes. I have learnt how to help small businesses as they don’t always know how to market their products.”
