Pumping Iron for a Spayathon

26 March 2013 By Alan Straton

Two lovely young ladies, Amy Tarr – 28 and Kathryn Schmelzer – 27, will be taking up a major challenge for the animals by taking part individually – not as part of a team – in the Ironman Corporate Challenge. the Corporate Challenge consists of a 380m Sea Swim, an 18km Bike Ride and a 4.2km run and takes place on 13 April, as part of the Ironman week.

Linda-Louise Swain of the Animal Cruelty League said; “This is one major challenge and on behalf of all those who cannot speak for themselves, we salute you, Kathryn and Amy, and wish you strength, muscle power and loads of hydration on the day. Thank you for making a difference.”

Amy and Kathryn are currently well on their way with training and will both be sporting a special t-shirt bearing the AACL logo and graphic and will be looking for support i ntheir quest to continue the work of the AACL.  Kathryn is part of the AACL’s SWAT spayathon team and all monies sponsored will go towards something close to her heart – a spayathon.

Every cent that they make will be going straight to help the animals of Missionvale, where another spayathon is greatly needed. The AACL is currently busy with five mini-spayathons dedicated to Mission Road Township in Greenbushes, as part of the World Spay Day initiative. This will be completed tomorrow – after 16 animals were sterilised on Saturday. They were at it again yesterday and will continue to snip-snap today and tomorrow.

The Animal Anti-Cruelty League is appealing for support for Amy and Kathryn and are able to supply a Tax Certificate for large donations. “Anything that you can afford will truly make a difference and help to end the suffering and pain of overbreeding and unwanted puppies and kittens,” says Linda Louise.

I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
