Pumeza Bono – Top 40 Under 40

10 January 2012 By Alan Straton

The Top 40 under 40 is a showcase of local business talent under the age of 40 compiled by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber (NMBBC).

Pumeza Bono (38), the Owner and Director of Pumeza Bono Incorporated, heads up a one hundred percent black-owned, all-female legal practice, which she founded in 2004.

An admitted attorney and conveyancer, Bono was appointed to the board of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber in May this year. She currently serves on the Black Conveyancers Association as chairperson of the Eastern Cape region, and she is also the regional organizer for the South African Women Lawyers Association (SAWLA). “I want to see women taking charge of their issues,” she says, “and take justice to under-privileged women and children. SAWLA has tried to achieve this through Access to Justice week, as well as through the sixteen days of activism for no violence against women and children”.

Bono’s wish is to use the resources she has at her disposal to assist the community. The firm has adopted ten underprivileged children from Elundini Primary school, buying them uniforms and paying their school fees. Bono believes that those with influence should use it to help others.

“Young Black females have what it takes to succeed,” says the married mother of three, “and I want to see them taking responsibility for the economy of South Africa.”

The Top 40 Under 40 list, an NMBBC initiative, was compiled from nominations and selected by an independent panel at the NMBBC. The end result is a showcase of talented and ambitious young businesspeople from diverse sectors in Nelson Mandela Bay. From 7 December 2011, MyPE showcases one under 40 achiever a day.

Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
