Psycho Bunny Brings Summer Polo Shirts and Swim Shorts to South Africa

28 October 2026 By Alan Straton Leave a Comment

South Africa: As October draws to a close, men across South Africa start swapping winter layers for lighter clothes. Jackets and jerseys get packed away, daylight stretches further into the evening, and diaries begin to fill with braais, golf days, end-of-year functions and early runs to the coast. It is a natural point to take stock of the warm-weather wardrobe and decide what should be replaced before the festive rush begins. Psycho Bunny South Africa, local home of the menswear label recognised by its embroidered skull and crossbones bunny, has a straightforward view of the season: the best summer wardrobe rests on a few hard-working pieces that look right in most of the places a man is likely to go.

There is nothing complicated about that approach, and that is deliberate. Summer in South Africa is demanding on clothing. One day might begin with a breakfast meeting, carry on through a long lunch outdoors and finish at a family dinner, with heat, wind and perhaps a late afternoon thunderstorm along the way. The items worth keeping are the comfortable ones that are simple to look after and smart enough for nearly any setting.

The polo comes first

No summer garment earns its keep like the polo, and it is the anchor of the Psycho Bunny range. It occupies the space between a T-shirt and a collared shirt: easy enough for the weekend, yet the collar and placket give it enough polish for a relaxed office, a restaurant or an event where a plain tee would look underdressed. The brand’s polo shirts cover classic pique styles in Pima cotton, sport polos and knit polos, all carrying the embroidered bunny on the chest.

Pima cotton deserves a brief explanation, since it helps explain why these polos have loyal fans. As a long fibre cotton, it produces a fabric that is soft to the touch and keeps its shape through repeated wear. That is a real advantage in summer, when the same polo will likely go through the wash and back into rotation many times over a few months.

Then there is colour. A compact collection of polos in shades that complement one another makes dressing simple. Navy, white and black handle most occasions, while one or two brighter options bring some energy to weekends and holidays. With a small embroidered logo instead of a large print across the front, the polos remain low-key and combine easily with chinos, tailored shorts, jeans or smarter trousers.

On the course

South Africans very often call a polo a golf shirt, and the name makes sense. For plenty of players, summer is peak golf season, with club days, corporate events and weekend rounds packing the calendar from now until the new year. The collared knit that suits a lunch table suits the fairway just as well, which is why many men see a quality golf shirt as an everyday essential and not only as sportswear.

Psycho Bunny’s golf shirts are made to cross between those worlds. A morning round can roll straight into lunch at the clubhouse without anyone feeling out of place, and the shirt can then slot into weekend wear. Anyone buying for a golfer in the family will also find a polo one of the safer gifts this time of year, simply because it gets worn.

Tees with character

Plenty of summer plans call for no collar at all. Around the house, running errands, travelling or heading out on a casual evening, a T-shirt is the natural pick, and here a touch of personality helps. Next to its classic crew necks, Psycho Bunny carries graphic tees that show the bunny in a range of styles and prints, many made from Pima cotton.

A graphic tee lifts an otherwise simple outfit. Worn with plain shorts or jeans and clean sneakers, it adds a focal point to a relaxed look without seeming forced. Plain crew necks in white, black or navy remain the foundation of any summer wardrobe, and keeping both kinds in the cupboard takes care of most casual plans between now and the end of the holidays.

Poolside and beach ready

December, for many South African families, means the coast, a holiday house, a pool or a dam. Swimwear tends to be overlooked until the last moment and then grabbed in a rush. Psycho Bunny’s swim shorts offer a more thought-through choice, including swim trunks and board shorts in all-over bunny prints, plus hydrochromic designs that reveal a hidden print once they get wet.

Sensible advice is to approach swimwear the way you would any other wardrobe item. A well-fitting pair that dries fairly fast and looks presentable at a beach café or poolside lunch is worth far more than one that only works in the water. For many men, swim shorts topped with a polo or a tee become the default outfit for the entire December break.

A wardrobe built to last

Versatility ties everything together. Instead of collecting lots of items for one-off occasions, the brand’s summer philosophy favours fewer pieces that mix well. Two or three polos, a couple of T-shirts, tailored shorts, swim shorts and a cap will handle most of what a South African summer demands, whether at the office, on the golf course or at the beach.

Caring for those pieces properly extends their life. Washing cotton polos and tees in cool water, turning printed garments inside out and drying them away from harsh direct sunlight all help keep colours accurate through a season of frequent wear. After swimming in the sea or a chlorinated pool, swimwear benefits from a rinse in fresh water.

Festive gifting

As the festive season gets closer, clothing ranks among the most popular gifts for men, though it is also among the trickiest to choose well. A polo, a tee or swim shorts in a familiar style is a dependable option for a partner, father, brother or friend, as these items suit most tastes and most summer occasions. Those unsure about sizing can shop in store to see and compare items before they buy.

Stores and online

Psycho Bunny South Africa trades online with delivery nationwide, as well as through its own stores at Sandton City in Johannesburg, the V&A Waterfront and Canal Walk in Cape Town, Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga, Mall of the North in Polokwane and Menlyn Park in Pretoria. Customers can explore the complete men’s, women’s and kids’ ranges online before heading to a store, or place an order straight from the website.
