Directors of small to medium businesses are invited to attend a free legal compliance workshop at the Propella Business Incubator in Humerail.
“Propella is hosting a series of workshops aimed at helping small businesses throughout the year as part of our contribution to supporting entrepreneurs in Port Elizabeth,” says Ellen Fischat, business support manager at Propella.
All directors in the region are welcome to attend the workshop, which will be presented by Varonique Philander on Thursday, February 18.
Many directors of SMMEs do not understanding the legal environment relating to their business and only consider legal advice after disputes arisen.
Most of the disputes could have been prevented had the correct measures been put in place at the start, she says.
The workshop will be short, but descriptive, interactive training designed to help directors understand “the ins and outs of being a director of your own company.
“This training will specifically appeal to entrepreneurs who are directors of their own company and who seek more information on what the job entails according to law, specifically the Companies Act,” says Philander.
Philander has her BCom Law and LLB from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, and is the managing director of her own company called Chaya Legal.
Entrepreneurs will get a better understanding of the legal duties of a director, who qualifies to be a director, how a board of directors is structured, how directors can be removed and how directors meetings should be conducted.
To find out how you can attend this workshop you can contact Mara Jacobs on 041 5023700.
