Join Port Elizabeth and MyPE in congratulating Mover and Shaker, Prof Danie Hattingh from NMMU:
The team that Prof Danie Hattingh heads at NMMU, eNtsa, has been responsible for much innovation through engineering. This includes a repair process that will save the power generation industry millions of rands. WeldCore™ won the National Innovation Competition for their development of a novel repair process geared towards the power generation industry.
The unique repair process, which has two international patents associated with it and has been commercialised, has the potential to save industry millions of rands in down time and repair costs. This year the same team won an award from Eskom for the same innovative repair process.
Professor Danie Hattingh was honoured at a special event at the university on the evening of 5 November 2012 as a Distinguished Professor, and will maintain the special title for at least five years.
For the first time in Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s history, five professors were recognised as Distinguished Professors in recognition of the significant contribution they have made within their field and to the university.
The five Distinguished Professors, selected by a screening committee, are; Mark Watson (psychology), Richard Cowling (botany), Rossouw von Solms (information technology), Bert Olivier (philosophy) and Danie Hattingh (automotive engineering).
