Prestigious Industry Award to Local CEO

15 August 2012 By Port Elizabethan

Then Southern African Association for the Conferencing Industry (SAACI) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, with its Annual National Congress in July 2012 recently highlighting numerous accomplishments by members who have helped with the success of the association in over the years.

Among those recognised, was the Eastern Cape AV Company Magnetic Storm’s managing partner, Glenn van Eck. Glenn received the prestigious FELLOWSHIP AWARD which recognises long service and a special contribution to SAACI. The award is presented as an acknowledgement of a minimum of 10 years of service and a positive contribution to the development of SAACI. Through this award, van Eck is thanked for the impact he has made on the lives of individuals within SAACI as a role-model and mentor, while working in a manner which helps young members and new-comers to SAACI and an inspiration to colleagues in the industry.

Glenn joined SAACI in 1999 and currently serves as Treasurer on the National SAACI Board. In 2008, he headed up the Eastern Cape committee which organised the SAACI National Congress in Grahamstown. Since then van Eck has served two consecutive terms as the branch chair in the Eastern Cape. In 2010, he attained his qualification as a Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) through SAACI – an international qualification accrediting van Eck with international certification within the events industry and endorsed by SAACI locally as well as the Conventions Industry Council (CIC) internationally.

Other Eastern Cape individuals nominated for awards at this year’s SAACI Congress was Liam Prince (Marketing Manager, Magnetic Storm) and Billy Borbidge (Co-owner, Imbizo Catering and 39 on Church Guest House) as a “Young Achiever” and “Personality of the Year” respectively, recognising their work done at branch level on the local SAACI Board.

Glenn van Eck receives Fellowship Award from SAACI National Chairperson, Nina Freysen-Pretorius.
