NAAMSA new vehicle sales figures released this week show the market in line with GMSA’s expectations for the month with a total of 47 868 units. The pressure on consumers and the economy in general are definitely reflected in these industry sales numbers.
May 2015 industry volumes were 3.2% below the corresponding period in 2014, contributing to a year to date industry which is 1.3% below 2014.
General Motors South Africa (GMSA) sold a total of 4 696 vehicles, achieving a market share of 9.8%. This continued our trend of increased market share each month this year.
With the GMSA portfolio, Opel continues its come back reflecting a 55% year to date increase versus last year. In May, Opel sold 493 passenger cars with the three new Germans leading the charge despite shortages of some models. ADAM continues to find favour with consumers five months after start of sales with 88 units sold. Mokka which has suffered from lack of availability had 203 units sold. The new Corsa continues to gain momentum with 156 units sold.
Chevrolet had strong sales driven by the Chevrolet Utility with 1228 units and the Chevrolet Spark with 782 units sold.
The locally assembled Isuzu KB had 1 255 units sold.
