On Saturday 26 March, the Mampoer Bar is hosting a Potjiekos Kompetisie (Small Pot Food Cooking Competition for our overseas ‘soutpiel’ readers who do not know how to speak ‘die taal’).
The Small Pot Food Cooking Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 pm, by which time the contestants should be suitably ‘gaar’ (drunk and not in a really nice way) so that they actually don’t care whether they win or not.
Of course copious amounts of Mampoer* always lead to the drinker wanting to display his or her macho manliness so a Mechanical Bull will be available from 1:00 to 4:00 pm for those who wish to re-enact their dubious past life as a cowboy / voortrekker (once again for the soutpiel – a voortrekker is loosely translated as a front puller and NO that has nothing to do with masturbation you filthy thing you!).
* Mampoer: a fiery pure mainly home distilled alcohol, well known for making people fall down and sleep immediately after allowing their innards to be assaulted. Mampoer is often ‘spiced’ up with the addition of large chillies to ‘supposedly’ add flavour!
The R100.00 per team entry fee is limited to a maximum of 10 teams of intrepid Small Pot Food Cookers who are heartily encouraged to contact Sunet on 0836268048.
You will find the Mampoer Bar at 111 Circular Drive, Lorraine, Port Elizabeth or by following the rhythmic thump and slap of the Mechanical Bull taking it’s revenge on inebriated wanna be cowboys!
