Port Elizabeth & Uitenhage Retention

6 August 2023 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

Through personal experience and general observation, yours truly has over time discovered that anger, money, drunkenness and/or power can reveal anyone’s true colours, however big (or small) we are all in denial of that bitter truth. In that context, the controversial name-changing of the otherwisely apolitical Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage monikers in contrast to the Africanism-enforcing & clout-seeking names such as Gqeberha and Kariega refer.

The name-changing hornets’ nest seems like a below-the-belt school playground showmanship between Black & Coloured [read Khoisan] opportunistic Bigots versus albeit bumptious Colonialism Apologists, Advocates, Defenders, Justifiers and/or Denialists; if not outright White Supremacists or blatant Racists. Africanism tend to be bandied about in South Africa by the very same bigots whom are fond of hiding behind some newfound and often pretentious Nubian & Khoisan brotherhood; which become cowardly suppressed or muted when dealing with the taunting of Equatorial Africans during propagated Xenophobic campaigns.

If I did not know better, I would say that the en vogue name-changing crusades and the glib ‘decolonialisation’ of education indoctrination reek of African Fascism by government functionaries that have failed dismally to add value to both country and citizenry for the past 29 years of democracy, thereby trying too hard to justify their salaries & relevance through using soft targets’ blame-shifting. As the venerated Fyodor Dostoyevsky of The Brothers Karamazov novel put it :- “I am superstitious, maybe as superstitious as a hunchback”, my normally dormant superstitious instincts have been woken up by the eerie pattern that after the enforcement of the Gqeberha + Kariega names, a lawless & murderous omen has fallen upon the respective replacements for The Friendly City & Garden Town taglines.

Sticking with the ‘decolonialisation’ of Proudly South African entities or simply Nazi trajectory, the planned canning of the Afrikaans-language soap opera, 7de Laan, is an apparent case study in Afrikaner Pogrom [meaning Genocide in the Russian language] of Afrikaans Language & Culture; a thinly- veiled retributive campaign that the very same admirers of Nelson Mandela are busy with.

As much as I was too young [let alone being a born outsider to be present therein], but the ripple effects of the Convention for a Democratic South Africa [CODESA] directives and resolutions of yesteryear (without its hitherto elusive meetings’ minutes, of cause) are nowadays for all to witness that the enrichment and protection of ANC Anointees and/or South African White Capital Approved Individuals was at the forefront of Social Cohesion negotiations; which seems to the cynical me as a simple case of the sugar-coating of a Governing Cartel that takes care of its own kind.

Regards
