Port Elizabeth Dishes up Entertaining Running Rugby

As I sit at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth watching the Coca Cola Craven Week rugby teams I cannot help but feel that rugby in South Africa has an incredible future ahead. Today’s teams are eschewing the kicking game and taking the ball on the run with relish. Okay the handling mistakes are many but that is excused by the sheer entertainment value of running rugby.

The schoolboys are like terriers watching for gaps and squirming through as they chase points and tries.

The South Western Districts (SWD) game against Limpopo was one such humdinger of a game making it very difficult to predict a winner – even with a final score of 46-18 to SWD one got the feeling that the game could still have gone the way of Limpopo.

The fixtures for Craven Week to-morrow, Wednesday, 11 July 2012, are as follows:

  • 09:30 – Griquas vs. Namibia
  • 11:00 – Leopards vs. Valke
  • 12:30 – Free State vs. Border
  • 14:00 – EP vs. Boland
  • 15:30 – KZN vs. Lions
