Visitors to Port Elizabeth and residents alike would do well to heed these quick beach tips and also note the beaches which are manned by lifeguards as well as the times.
Tips for the beach:
- Only swim where lifeguard flags are displayed.
- Never swim alone.
- Seek advise if you are using the beach for the first time on where to swim and what equipment to use.
- Always put on sun block, Drink water when staying for many hours in the sun.
- Your children must always be in sight. They must always swim under close supervision.
Port Elizabeth beaches where lifeguards are on on duty and (numbers):
- St Georges Village (2)
- Wells Estate (6)
- Blue Water Bay (2)
- Brighton Beach (3)
- Kings Beach (6)
- Humewood (4)
- Hobie Beach (3)
- Pollok (2)
- Sardinia Bay (4)
- Beach view (3)
- Maitlands (6)
- Blue Horizon Bay (2)
The total number of lifeguards on duty does vary dependent upon club duty’s and where the municipal lifeguards must assist.
St Georges Village, Wells, Blue Water Bay, Brighton, Kings Beach, Humewood, Hobie and Pollok Beaches will be manned daily up until the end of April 2015 at various times on peak days depending on beach usage.
Sardinia Bay, Beachview, Maitlands and Blue Horizon Bay will be manned from 6 December 2014 to 6 January 2015. Peak days from 07:00-19:00 all other days 09:00-16:30 but also weather dependent.
