Port Elizabeth Author Looks for Friends

Port Elizabeth author Deryck Foster has just released his first novel, “To Find Friends”, a seamless blend of action and romance that follows the adventures of an ex-army officer trying to track down some of his friends in the defence force.

Set against the backdrop of the quiet town of Port Elizabeth in South Africa, Foster’s story begins with the lead character, who remains nameless throughout the novel, seeking out some of his former special forces colleagues from his time in the army.

This triggers a series of events that draws him back into the cloak and dagger world of mystery and intrigue, working with a team of permanent force specialists to assist them in protecting the very friends he’s looking for, while at the same time uncovering a spy syndicate.

While all the intrigue is taking place, Foster masterfully introduces a romantic element to his story as his main character falls for the charming Vicky, and all the chaos that ensues from this relationship.

Foster spent a mandatory two years in the South African Defence Force and has subsequently spent 34 years vacillating between the Corporate sector and being an Entrepreneur.

“I grew up in a small country town before the era of television and, thanks to my teachers, I developed a love of languages and read prolifically, sometimes handing in 18 book reviews when only four were required,” he said.

Foster said his love for language, along with the ability to listen to and visualise the action and drama unfolding in radio plays, instilled in him a keen sense for a story and drama.

Foster says his affinity for firearms started early in his life and culminated in qualifying as a Gunsmith and shooting at the World Practical Pistol Championships.

After finally leaving the corporate world he works as a photographer and also conducts motivational talks.

Foster says he is hoping to have the novel available in all the major bookshops throughout South Africa in plenty of time for the Christmas rush.
