For the past 21 years, Peter has owned a Private Residence in Central.

Peter estimates the additional monthly maintenance and cleaning costs on this asset, as the result of the manganese ore, to be in the region of RR2000 per month.

The cost of accelerated wear and tear over the life of Peter’s asset is estimated to be: R20 000.

Peter has this to say about the Manganese Ore pollution from the Port of Port Elizabeth; “More space at Coega’s IDZ.

Clean up the city.

Stop breaking the roads with ridiculously heavy trucks that transport the ore. It should all be transported by rail.

The rail lines are already set up for Coega.

The local harbour authority is just using the income from the ore loading berth as their major income and too lazy to seek other more creative streams. The two port authorities should be forced to work together under a combined budget.”
