PE’s SA Netball pro featured in one of a kind motivational sports book

29 June 2015 By Alan Straton

Former South African netball captain, Zanele Mdodana, has recently been named as one of fifty South African sporting heroes who will be featured in the first edition of “A Message of Hope”. A one of a kind motivational sports book.

“A Message of Hope” is authored by Karien Basson and will feature sportsmen and women including Duane Vermeulen, Eben Etzebeth, Cornal Hendricks, JP Duminy and Maryka Holtzhausen, where they will reveal their hopes and dreams for South Africa and its people.

“If this is not a sign that God is good then I don’t know what is,” says Mdodana
The 31-year-old NMMU graduate has an international netball career spanning 11 years, of which in two of those, she served as captain of the South African netball team.

“What an honour it is to feature in the first edition of the book of hope!” she says.

The book will share the stars’ favourite scripture verses, personal messages of hope as well as their profiles. This will be accompanied by photos from their personal photo albums – a feature which will set the book apart.

This comes after Mdodana recently announced her retirement from international netball citing that she would like to step aside for the next generation of players.

“It would be a big injustice to the country for me to agree to go to the World Cup knowing I have not had much game time of late,” she says.

Mdodana promises that she has not left netball but seeks to make an impact from the other side of the court, as a coach. She will continue as an administrator in her position as Sport Manager for netball at NMMU, as well as the assistant coach for NMMU’s netball team.

Minister of Sport, Fikile Mbalula, praised Mdodana for her commitment to the sport.

“Mdodana spent over a decade in the netball pitch giving practical meaning to dedication and excellence,” he says.
