Diary of a Tour in South Africa. 57 April 11. Easter Sunday. We left Oudtshoorn this morning at 9.30, bythe first train to depart in the direction we wishto go since last Thursday, and have reachedKlipplaat Junction at 10.35 p-m. Nothing ofnote the whole day, except the re-passing ofthe Toverwater Poort, which again had notsufficient light for photography in a movingtrain, for which I was more than sorry, asseveral portions of the pass were extremelyfine. At the various stations we passed, theKaffirs in their Sunday clothes caused us muchamusement. A large, coloured patch on whatwere apparently quite new trousers, seemed tobe the principal adornment of the men, and thegirls appeared always in very bright blouses ofthe most astounding hues. The run for the day has been 154 miles, andwe have now travelled 1,064 miles from CapeTown. 58 Diary of a Tour in South Africa. April 12.
