Partnership with Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord

The PE Opera House is thrilled to announce that Xabiso Zweni and Nobesuthu Rayi have been invited by the Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord in Germany as part of our partnership with the theatre.

Xabiso Zweni met Frank Furhrmann Theatre Pedagogue at Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord in 2012 when Xabiso along with fellow Nelson Mandela Bay theatre makers attended a workshop at the Ubuntu Centre. Frank later invited Xabiso to Germany in October 2014. It was during this trip that the conceptulization of Xabiso’s popular play #AfterMarikana began when he was gifted a book of poems by Professor Nitch which he termed ‘Docu – poetry’. Xabiso was instrumental in the cross atlantic relationship formed by not only the PE Opera House & Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord byt also Nelson Mandela University Arts & Culture Department & Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord.

In 2016 Frank travelled to South Africa with 2 German theatre makers Paul Lucke and Jeffery von Laun this trip birthed the production Changes in partnership between the PE Opera House and Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord GmbH a story that tells the tale of pre 1994 in which the uncertain times of lives of Germans and South Africans were tested. Directed by Frank Fuhrmann starring the 2 German actors along with Xabiso Zweni & Nobesuthu Rayi who was spotted by Frank during a previous visit during the Nelson Mandela University performances. Changes was performed at the National Arts Festival in July 2016.

The PE Opera House & Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord theatre continue their partnership with Nobesuthu Rayi & Xabiso Zweni having been invited to Germany to tour with the production ‘Changes’ and also partake in the theatre’s ‘Schulertheatretage’ programme. Nobesuthu Rayi ho is currently a freelance actress and Associate Producer at the National Arts Festival & PE Opera House Drama Curator Xabiso Zweni will be waving our flag high in Germany from the 25th of May until the 18th of June 2018. We wish them well and may our partnership with Landesbuhne Niedersachsen Nord continue to prosper and bear many more wonderful opportunities for the PE Opera House and theatre makers of Nelson Mandela Bay!
