Over R750 000 of Stolen Goods Recovered in Hankey

Several boxes containing biscuits, coffee, chips, etc, worth more than R750 000-00, was recovered by the South African Police Service from a residential home in Splinter Street, Hankey in the early hours of Thursday morning, 16 March 2017.  The boxes were allegedly on a Nissan truck and trailer that was destined for delivery in East London, on Wednesday, 15 March 2017. 

It is alleged that the driver of a Nissan truck and trailer was underway to East London with a delivery, when the truck was pushed off the road, close to Port Alfred, by a Silver Toyota Corolla, with six armed men in the vehicle.  The suspects took control over the truck and drove off with it towards Hankey.  Meanwhile the driver of the truck was pushed into the Corolla and the suspects dropped him off later that night, in the Main Road of Despatch.  The suspects offloaded the groceries at a home in Splinter Street, Hankey and afterwards drove back in the direction of Port Elizabeth and abandoned the truck on the Rocklands Road, outside Uitenhage, at about 01:00, that morning. 

Police members in Uitenhage recovered the abandoned truck and the necessary role players were alerted about the hijacked truck that was found.  After thorough investigations, members from the Port Elizabeht Hijacking Task team set out to Hankey and with the assistance of SAPS Hankey the recovery was made.  Groceries to the value of R750 000-00 were confiscated.  Detectives are following up on leads and arrests are imminent.  The Port Elizabeth Hijacking Task team are investigating cases of hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods. 

Newly appointed, Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John le Bok, commended the team for the successful recovery of the stolen property and said: “let us keep up the good work in our strive to combat crime and ensure a safe and secure environment for all.  We will know follow up on all leads and gather crucial evidence that can link the suspects to the crime.
