Open Auditions for Ian von Memerty’s musical version of Fiela’s Child

18 August 2011 By Alan Straton

The PE Gilbert and Sullivan Society

The Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society is proud to be bringing Ian von Memerty’s musical version of Fiela’s Child to the stage in November 2011.

This hauntingly beautiful show, based on Delene Matthee’s much loved novel Fiela se Kind, will be seen first by Port Elizabeth theatre goers. Ian has entrusted his work to the brilliantly capable hands of Director Robin Williams who, along with Musical Director Neil Leachman and Lighting Designer David Limbert, will make this classic South African story come to life.

Auditions will be held from 18:00 on Friday 26th August at Damelin College, 10th Avenue Walmer.

Call backs and any additional singing auditions will take place the following day.

Because of the unique nature of this story, there are quite specific criteria for each role in terms of race, age and singing/acting ability. Auditionees should prepare a dramatic musical theatre song and bring either a backtrack or sheet music to their audition. Every member of the cast will be required to sing, act and move well on stage.

The roles open for auditions are:

  • Fiela Komoetie – Strong singer/actress (40s) – Mezzo-Soprano
  • Selling Komoetie – Singer/ actor – must look older than Fiela
  • Komoetie children – 2 males and 2 females in their early to late teens.
