Ongama Mtimka – Top 40 Under 40

6 January 2012 By Alan Straton

The Top 40 under 40 is a showcase of local business talent under the age of 40 compiled by the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber (NMBBC).

Ongama Mtimka (28), is a Media Liaison Officer at the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Ongama Mtimka is a young man with big dreams for himself and for Nelson Mandela Bay. Mtimka’s Master’s degree in South African Politics and Political Economy took him through the ranks at the Coega Development Corporation and in to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, where he currently serves as the media liaison officer and acts as spokesperson.

He has a couple of lecturing credits under his belt too, as he gives university classes in Political Reporting, and teaches Economics and Business Studies to matriculants.

Diverse business interests keep Mtimka busy, and challenged. “I am motivated by a strong desire to bring about positive changes in my life and in the lives of other people,” says Mtimka, who believes in his own potential as a leader. “I have a genuine desire to use my time and energy to touch the lives of vulnerable people, particularly the economically oppressed.”

He is currently in the planning stages of a project that could see the creation of fifty jobs in twenty-four months, as well as an initiative that will help a rural community commercialise its sand mining operations.

The Top 40 Under 40 list, an NMBBC initiative, was compiled from nominations and selected by an independent panel at the NMBBC. The end result is a showcase of talented and ambitious young businesspeople from diverse sectors in Nelson Mandela Bay. From 7 December 2011, MyPE showcases one under 40 achiever a day.
