One Hundred Bucks and a Cooldrink was not enough

A Nelson Mandela Bay man learned a hard lesson when he was arrested this morning for attempting to bribe a Metro Police officer.

A Nelson Mandela Bay motorist landed in hot water after attempting to bribe a Metro Police Officer with R100 and a cool drink, when it was discovered at a checkpoint that he was driving without a driver’s licence.

The 29-year-old driver of a red Nissan Sentra was arrested for bribery and corruption and taken to the Algoa Park Police Station this morning.

Bay Metro Police Chief Yolanda Faro sounded a warning to all motorists that officials will not be compromised.

“Motorists should understand that our continuous efforts to enforce the law on our roads is to save lives. We will not be deterred by errant behaviour as our officers continuously show that they are men and women of integrity.

“Beware of this pertinent example. If you want to attempt to bribe our officers, you will be arrested.

“The driver of the car was pulled over at a vehicle check point in the vicinity of Chase Drive and Keeton Street in Young Park just after 8am.

“Whilst our Metro Police officer was busy issuing a fine for the transgression, the driver requested the official to step aside and offered him R100 and a cool drink to cancel the traffic ticket.

“The officer immediately informed the driver that he is an enforcer of the law and not corrupt and subsequently arrested him,” Faro said.
