Dear MyPE
It is now fourteen days since I wrote to NPA head, Shaun Abrahams, requesting reasons within fourteen days as to why Danny Jordaan’s criminal pal Linda Mti wasn’t prosecuted in 2009 for corruption and fraud.
Fourteen days later Shaun Abrahams and the NPA have missed this reasonable deadline and have failed to explain why Mti has evaded prosecution.
The case against Mti includes conclusive findings by the SIU, that he allegedly benefited personally from multi-billion rand tender fraud and corruption.
The DA will file a PAIA application with the NPA to have the NPA’s record of decision made public, as to why it has not prosecuted Linda Mti.
The DA has fought Mti’s appointment to NMB’s Safety and Security Head since it was first proposed by Danny Jordaan. As a convicted criminal and alleged fraudster, there is no place for Linda Mti in the higher offices of our Metro government.
With 80% of the Bay’s residents afraid to go out at night, the highest of any South African Metro, Mayor Jordaan has confirmed the ANC’s unwillingness to keep crime out by giving the responsibility of Safety and Security to a convicted criminal and alleged billion-rand fraudster.
Mti’s tenure got off to an embarrassing start last Friday when his and Jordaan’s bungled Metro Police launch saw disgruntled protesters interrupt the event where untrained traffic personnel were paraded around with unexplained ranks in new uniforms.
Jordaan and Mti have not delivered a metro police service. They have instead tried to fool the people of the Bay by contravening Chapter 12 of the Police Services Act in dangerously marching ill-equipped and untrained metro officials into some of NMB’s most dangerous communities.
This only adds to the growing list of broken promises under the ANC and Mayor Jordaan; a criminal appointment to the Head of Safety and Security, 21 000 more unemployed residents since December 2015, R300 million water and electricity losses in 9 months, no “war on leaks”, no eradication of bucket toilets, no weekly refuse collection in all wards, no resolution to the Red Location Museum and Bayworld stalemates, and frequent no-shows at important meetings.
The people of Nelson Mandela Bay need to be led by a government of integrity, and that is why the DA is committed to improving service delivery, stopping corruption and creating jobs to bring the change we need to move forward again.
Regards
