Dear Editor
Free legal advice, assistance with municipal service delivery and home affairs issues will be some of the services provided at the newly launched Democratic Alliance (DA) Nelson Mandela Bay Mobile Service Delivery Clinic.
Today, 17 August 2023, I was joined by DA NMB Caucus Chief Whip, Cllr Georgina Faldtman, and PE Northern Areas Constituency Chairperson, Dr Malcolm Figg, in launching our mobile service delivery clinic at the Blou Kerk Hall in Riemvasmaak in Gqeberha.
Service delivery across NMB is yet again beginning to stall with residents suffering the brunt of extended water and electricity outages. Large sections of the Metro are covered in darkness as the backlog in faulty streetlights continues to grow whilst bungles with municipal accounts which can take months to resolve are leaving our residents despondent.
It’s taking longer to resolve service delivery complaints and at times residents have no choice but to accept the status quo and throw in the towel. Just yesterday, 16 August 2023, the DA exposed how a large part of the NMB administration has been without landline or email connectivity for more than a month – rendering officials uncontactable by residents.
This is why the DA has launched its mobile clinic which will go to every corner of Nelson Mandela Bay assisting residents who don’t have the resources to contact or travel to municipal offices to have a voice.
I will be assisted by the relevant DA councillors and we will travel to different areas at least once a week to set up shop. Residents will be able to visit the clinic and receive advise in the following areas:
- legal advice from practicing attorneys;
- any municipal issues;
- any matters relating to home affairs.
The lack of leadership from the ANC/EFF/NA/PA coalition government is again collapsing the NMB administration and is unable to attend to the needs of residents. It is clear that even in opposition, the DA is more effective than the current political bosses sitting in their fancy offices.
The DA is in your corner, fighting for you. Together we can get NMB working again.
Regards
Cllr Retief Odendaal
DA NMB Caucus Leader
