Not the Most Opportune Time to Commit a Crime in Despatch

On Friday 27 January members from SAPS Despatch were busy distributing safety hints pamphlets on National Police Day in town, when they received valuable information from the community about a house robbery that occurred earlier. Members immediately followed up on the information which contributed to the successful arrest of one suspect allegedly involved in the house robbery.

The house robbery took place at about 06:00 on Friday 27 January 2017, in Stellenberg Close, Despatch. It is alleged that two suspects, armed with a knife, entered the premises and when the 71-year-old victim heard noises she went out to investigate. The two suspects overpowered her and took her inside the house where they took items out of the safe (jewellery, bank cards etc). The suspects fled from the scene with the stolen items.

Members from SAPS Despatch apprehended the suspect (in his early 20’s) in Khayamnandi (Despatch) at about 12:00 the same day and he will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates’ Court on a charge of house robbery on Monday, 30 January 2017. Some of the stolen items were also found in his possession. Investigations are continuing and members are following up every lead in an attempt to apprehend the second suspect.
