The North End Beach Development (NEBD) was launched on 26 March with a well attended symposium held at the Alexander Road High School. The main focus of the event was to explain the project as well as getting the word out that not only is this development important for the youth of Port Elizabeth but also that it is their future.
The NEBD website and Youtube video were launched at the end of the event. The website and video were produced by learners at Alexander Road High and will be maintained by them. Another aspect of the NEBD is the school projects which are downloadable from the web site. These projects are also designed and written by learners.
All the info and the expert panellist presentations as well as their contact details are available on the web site.
After the symposium, the press release in the PE Express attracted more people, from other walks of life in PE – people offered assistance and want to become involved. Youth project Coordinator, Cronje Oosthuizen was interviewed on national Afrikaans radio station, RSG, on 11 April. That spread the word as well and really increased the number of views on the Youtube video.
Cronje Oosthhuizen says; “The NEBD is a Youth project, an awareness campaign, in which the Youth can see a future for themselves in the Nelson Mandela Metro and study toward that goal.
“Our great city needs this and the time is right, communities around and in North End need upliftment and social integration, our beaches need to be reclaimed, development like NEBD will create a world-class tourist destination and investors will be attracted.
We believe it is possible and probable. The NEBD is the future of PE!”
