No agreement in place for Sergeal Petersen loan to Cheetahs

There is no loan agreement in place for Sergeal Petersen to play at the Cheetahs, said EP Rugby CEO, Charl Crous.

Crous was reacting to a report on the “not so Super” Sport web site by Brenden Nel that said;

The Toyota Cheetahs may be undergoing a bit of a player exodus at the moment, but they have snapped up some exceptional young talent for next year’s Vodacom Super Rugby series.

The Cheetahs have signed former Southern Kings and SA under-20 winger Sergeal Petersen for next year’s competition after his contract ends at the end of this season.

While Petersen will stay with the Kings for the Absa Currie Cup for 2014 and 2015, he has done a deal with the Cheetahs and will give coach Naka Drotske a lot more options alongside his two Springboks, Willie le Roux and Cornal Hendricks, in the backline.

In his reaction Crous said;

“We have always said that we would assist our players to secure Super Rugby experience in the build up to our re-entry to Super Rugby in 2016,”

“In the case of Sergeal Petersen, we have been informed by his agent that the Cheetahs are interested in securing his services for next year, but we have not yet had any discussions with them, let alone finalised any loan agreement,” he said.

“The announcement that Sergeal will be going to play for them is extremely premature,” he said.
