NMMU Athletics offers two bursaries for top athletes

Two top athletes participating in the Eastern Cape School Championships at NMMU on 16 and 17 April 2012 will be in the running to receive study bursaries of R10 000 each from the NMMU Athletics Club.

NMMU Sport Manager: Athletics, Mr Nellis Bothma, says it is essential to retain top athletes in the Eastern Cape and supply them with excellent coaching, modern athletics facilities and numerous study opportunities. “This not only enhance their athletics careers, but also their holistic development,” he adds.

The winners of the two NMMU Athletics bursaries will be announced simultaneously with the team to the SA Championships. The male or female athlete scoring the most points for one event on the updated ABSA Athletics table for U/19 women and men on the day of the Eastern Cape Schools Championships will be considered for the bursary.

The Eastern Cape School athletics selectors will, with the selection of their provincial team to take part in the SA Junior, Youth and U/15 athletes in Germiston from 29 to 31 March 2012, also nominate the best U/19 male and female athletes, that matriculate in 2012.

“These two athletes will then qualify for Athletics Sport bursaries at NMMU of R10 000 each, if they decide to study at NMMU and join the very successful NMMU athletics club in 2013,” says Bothma.
