NMB Speaker Must Carry Costs Of Motion Of No Confidence Court Case

The DA in the Eastern Cape welcomes the decision that the Speaker of the Nelson Mandela Bay Council will carry the costs for today’s totally avoidable case in the Gqeberha High Court.

This follows after the DA turned to the court to prevent an incompetent motion of no confidence in NMB Mayor Retief Odendaal from being debated at a special council meeting set for 8 May 2023.

Despite the fact that the Speaker was informed by the DA’s legal team that the motion of no confidence was incompetent, he chose to proceed and place the item on the agenda. He then also allowed the matter to go to court, despite knowing that the motion would not pass legal muster.

The Speaker eventually cancelled the special council meeting.

The corrupt ANC-EFF Doomsday Coalition has yet again petitioned for a special council meeting on 26 May 2023 and submitted a motion of no confidence in Mayor Odendaal and the multi-party coalition government.

They are now more desperate than ever to remove corruption-busting Mayor Odendaal so that they can start looting again.

The people of Nelson Mandela Bay will not have the wool pulled over their eyes. It is clear that the ANC-EFF Doomsday Coalition will use any excuse to take over the government of the Metro.

The DA remains committed to the multi-party coalition government in Nelson Mandela Bay, and although some of our coalition partners have signed their names to this frivolous motion, our door remains open to them.

We will fight for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay. We will fight to ensure that the work we have started continues and that residents get the services they are entitled to.
