NMB residents must make their voices heard against frivolous MONC

25 May 2023 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

The residents of Nelson Mandela Bay can still make a difference by making their voices heard in relation to the frivolous motion of no confidence (MONC) being brought against Mayor Retief Odendaal and the multi-party coalition government.

Tomorrow, 26 May 2023, the ANC-EFF Doomsday Coalition’s motion of no confidence in Mayor Odendaal and the coalition will be tabled at a special council meeting, and 120 councillors will decide the city’s fate.

In their desperation to start looting, the ANC, EFF and others have brought a motion of no confidence without any factual motivation. They latched on to a non-existent finding by the Auditor-General (AG) against the NMB Deputy Mayor, that the AG has since retracted twice. The motivation behind the motion of no confidence has, therefore, been proven to be baseless and devoid of truth.

Since the coalition took over the reins of government eight months ago, there has been improved service delivery, a crackdown on corruption, and an air of optimism and hope amongst residents. The ANC-EFF coalition wishes to derail this progress and line their pockets with the city’s money. The DA implores all residents to join us in our fight to protect the mayor, the coalition, and the progress they have made.

While it is true that residents only get to choose who represents them once every five years and will have to wait until 2026 to vote again, nothing is stopping them from making their voices heard.

Every member who sits on the council is a public representative, elected to represent the best interests of the residents. Their phone numbers are readily available to the public via https://www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za/councillors

The people of Nelson Mandela Bay can fight for their city by picking up the phone and calling councillors to demand that they vote in line with the wishes of the people and keep Mayor Odendaal and the multi-party coalition in government.

The reality is that residents of Nelson Mandela Bay are sick and tired of selfish councillors who place their own needs above those of the people.

Pick up the phone, make the call. Let your voices be heard. Join us in our fight to keep making progress and get Nelson Mandela Bay working again.

Regards
