Night Relay Returns

8 May 2019 By Alan Straton

Runners and walkers from all over Nelson Mandela Bay will be coming together once again this winter for the exciting start to the region’s most popular team based night running series.

Teams from the corporate world will be back in action starting on the 14th of May when the Town Lodge Business Night Relay kicks off at the Nelson Mandela Stadium’s World of Windows for the 9th season. The event, which is ever increasing in popularity, will take place on the second Tuesday of May, June, July and August.

Competitors are required to complete a 3.5km lap within the stadium precinct making it a fun, safe way for anyone to get involved. Thereafter runners and walkers hand over the baton to a teammate to continue the challenge. Teams consist of 5 runners and 3 walkers.

Last year’s unbeaten team, Gamble Pharmacy, will once again be the team to watch for fast times. However, this is one event which focuses more on the promotion of team bonding outside of the office and the encouragement of healthy active lifestyles.

Each race night is concluded with a short prize giving where winners receive medals as unique as the event itself together with a floating trophy for each category. Awesome lucky draw prizes are also up for grabs for those competitors sticking around for the prize giving and a some socializing post-race.

The increasing popularity of the event can be put down to a number of factors not least of which is the world class venue at which the event takes place. The occurrence of the race on a Tuesday night also proves popular amongst participants as it serves to break up the week and boost moral in the office.
