Night Relay Gamble

Local companies are all set to battle once again on Thursday night for the 4th and final round of the Investec Night Relay at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadiums. Over 100 corporate and social running and walking teams are anticipated to descent on the Stadium for what promises to be a fun evening of networking as they do battle over the 5km route around the stadium precinct.

For the past 2 years the young running team from Gamble Pharmacy have dominated the Series and this year is no exception. Dethroned in race 1 this year, the 5-person running team has come back strongly and won the last 2 race nights despite not having included their Olympic running star Lusapho April in their team yet. In the Mixed category, the Transnet team will start as favourites from the Metro team ‘Never Give Up’ and the team from PKF.

“The Investec Night Relay has been another successful corporate event for the city and has become a great winter event showcasing our magnificent Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.” said Mike Zoetmulder of Zports. “We are looking forward to the season finale on Thursday evening with some awesome prizes up for grabs.”

Whilst the running category is open to teams of 5 runners, each completing a 5km lap around the stadium, an equally popular running category is included for 3 walkers per team. This year the walking category has been dominated by the Bluewater Bay Athletics Club with three wins out of three this year. The Rawstron family, last year’s champions, and the walkers from Whitfield Fintax are favourites to be in the medals this month. Whilst in the ladies run category its newcomers Aquabear ladies who’ve had some impressive results and could take the gold from Wimpy and hosts, Access Management.

The 2014 Investec Night Relay is hosted by Access Management and supported by the City Lodge Hotels Group, Kingfisher FM, the EC Group and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Late entries for Round 4 are possible at the venue from 4.30pm, racing starts at 6pm followed by Prize giving at 8.30pm with R1,000 cash up for grabs in the lucky draws and BOS refreshment for all participants.
