New President and Vice for NMBBC

At the recent Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber Annual General Meeting held at the Radisson Hotel on Wednesday, 12 May 2011 the new President and Vice President of the NMBBC Board were announced.

Coming in for outgoing President, Alfred da Costa, is well known Port Elizabeth businessman and owner of the Spec-Savers Franchise, Bryan Dowley.

Bryan qualified as an optometrist in 1972 and built up a successful group of practices between 1973 and 1991 before launching the Spec-Savers franchise in 1992. Dowley became a director of the NMBBC in 2006, the same year that he was a finalist in the Ernest & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award and also the same yaer that he received the Herald/ABSA Business Person of the Year Award in 2006.

Replacing outgoing Vice President, Jane Stevenson is Nomkhita Mona, the present CEO of the UDDI.

Nomkhita was CEO of Inkezo Land Company in KZN after holding the CEO position for the EAsteern Cape Tourism Board. Nomkhita is a NMBBC Board Member as well as a Trustee of the Wilderness Foundation (SA) and the Oliver Foundation. Mona holds an MBA from Rhodes University, a Masters degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources, a BA (Honours) in Industrial Relations as well as a BA in Psychology & Sociology from the University of Port Elizabeth.

At the AGM seven new board members were voted onto the board as well:

  • Pumeza Bono – owner of Pumeza Bono Attorneys.
  • Carol Hall – former Vodacom Managing Executive for the Eastern Region.
  • Neil Hart – who heads up Boomtown Strategic Brand Agency.
  • Tracy Mackie – founder of Yithethe Publishing.
  • Wanda Matandela – Vodacom Eastern Cape Managing Executive
  • Philip Nieman – Managing Director of Coca Cola Fortun.
  • Ben Nyaumwe – owner and founder of Auspex Property.
