The 2026 Street Lines Skate Tournament once again turned Thrashers Skatepark in Pretoria into the epicentre of South African skateboarding, bringing together the country’s top athletes and some of the continent’s most exciting emerging talent for a day of high-level competition.
Presented by LW Mag and Dragon Energy Drink, in partnership with DC Shoes, Garmin, Insta360 and Side Hustle Skate Shop, the 2026 edition delivered another major showcase of progression, style and raw skateboarding talent.
Competition was intense from the opening runs across the Junior, Women’s and Men’s divisions. Skaters pushed the limits of the course while chasing podium finishes, prize money and a place in Street Lines history.
Firmly established as one of South Africa’s premier skateboarding competitions, Street Lines continues to raise the standard each year. The qualifying rounds saw riders compete for a place in the finals, with every trick, line and landing proving crucial.
The format tested consistency and creativity. During qualifying, competitors were given two 45-second runs, with their best run counting towards the leaderboard. The finals combined two 45-second runs with four Best Trick attempts. Each skater’s highest-scoring run and top two tricks contributed to the final score.
Judges considered difficulty, consistency, style and use of the park, with only the strongest performances earning a place in the finals.
Junior Division
The Junior Division remains central to Street Lines’ commitment to developing the sport. It gives young skateboarders an opportunity to compete in a professionally run event and experience competition at a higher level.
The young riders showcased confidence, creativity and progression, highlighting the depth of emerging skateboarding talent in South Africa.
Ayanda Ndlovu and Sereno Khunyani both claimed their second Street Lines Junior podium finishes, taking second and third place respectively.
However, it was Luyanda Vukapi who impressed the judges most. His standout performance secured the 2026 Street Lines Junior Division title.
Women’s Division
The Women’s Division continued to reach new heights, with the Top 8 delivering a fiercely contested final packed with technical tricks, creative lines and impressive consistency.
Thabiso Mashiyakgomo of Johannesburg secured another Street Lines podium finish in third place. Her strong run featured an Indy Grab over the Box, Boardslide to Fakie, Front Boardslide on the Rail and Front Boardslide to Fakie on the A-Frame.
Boipelo Awuah of Kimberley entered the final with an unbeaten Street Lines record, having won every edition since the event began in 2021.
She looked set to extend that run after producing a dominant performance featuring a Switch Boardslide down the Flat Bar Rail, Crooked Grind on the Curved Box, Smith Grind on the A-Frame Rail and 50-50 on the Flat Bar.
Awuah entered the Best Trick attempts in the lead. However, with only one successful trick, another Switch Boardslide down the Flat Bar Rail, she was unable to retain the advantage and finished second.
Ashley Gindre of Johannesburg produced the performance of her young career to claim the 2026 Street Lines Women’s title.
Gindre delivered a highly consistent run, making good use of the park from her opening drop-in from the Big Wall. She followed it with a Melon Grab 180 on the Quarter Pipe, 180 Transfer, Ollie over the Pyramid Hip, Rock to Fakie on the Quarter Pipe and Kickflip to Fakie on the Pyramid Bank.
She added a Melon Early Grab on the Quarter Pipe and a Melon Grab over the Box during the Best Trick section to seal the victory and become the 2026 Street Lines Women’s Champion.
Men’s Division
The premier Men’s Division delivered one of the most fiercely contested competitions in Street Lines history. The 15 finalists pushed their limits from the opening runs through to the Best Trick attempts, keeping the judges on their toes throughout.
Ethan Cairns of Cape Town secured another Street Lines podium finish in third place.
His technical run featured a Lipslide on the Flat Bar Rail, Frontside Bluntslide on the Curve Box, Frontside Feeble Grind on the A-Frame Rail, Backside Smith Grind on the Horizontal Rail, Backside Lipslide on the Flat Bar Rail and 270 Frontside Lipslide on the A-Frame.
Cairns continued to push the technical level during the Best Trick attempts, landing an Over Crooked Grind and a Tre Flip Lipslide on the A-Frame Rail.
Terrence Khumalo of Johannesburg delivered a standout performance to claim his first Street Lines podium finish, taking second place in front of the local crowd.
His highest-scoring run included a Lipslide and Backside Lipslide on the Flat Bar Rail, Backside Smith Grind on the A-Frame Rail, Nollie Frontside Boardslide on the Horizontal Rail, and a Crooked Grind and Nollie Lipslide on the Flat Bar.
During the Best Trick section, he landed a Nollie Noseslide on the Flat Bar and a Nollie Frontside Feeble on the A-Frame. Combined with his run score, the tricks secured the runner-up position.
After years of putting in the work, Ashton Banwell of Cape Town achieved his breakthrough by claiming his maiden Street Lines victory.
His highest-scoring run featured a Backside 180 Nosegrind on the Flat Bar to Fakie, Indy Grab over the Pyramid, Tre Flip on the Hip, Backside Smith on the Horizontal Rail, Frontside Blunt on the A-Frame Rail, Half Cab Nose Nollie to Heelflip out on the Floor Box and Nollie Crooked Grind on the Curve Box.
During the Best Trick attempts, Banwell landed a Fakie Half Cab Noseslide 270 Out on the Hubba and a 180 Nosegrind Switch Heelflip Out on the Flat Bar Rail.
The combined score from his run and Best Tricks gave him the highest overall total and secured the 2026 Street Lines Men’s title.
Insta360 Best Trick
The day concluded with the Insta360 Best Trick contest, bringing the skaters together for one final showcase of creativity and progression.
The jam session took over the Stair Set, Rails and Hubbas, with skaters producing some of the biggest and most technical tricks of the day.
Marci Rodrigues stole the show with a huge Frontside Bluntslide Kickflip Out to Fakie on the Double Set Rail. The trick earned him the victory and an Insta360 X4 360° action camera.
“Street Lines 2026 has once again shown the incredible depth and progression of skateboarding in South Africa,” said Street Lines organiser Ryan van der Spuy.
“This year we saw amazing performances across all three divisions, from the next generation of Junior skaters to incredibly competitive Women’s and Men’s fields.
“Seeing Luyanda Vukapi claim the Junior title, Ashley Gindre take her first Women’s win and Ashton Banwell secure his maiden Men’s victory shows how much talent is coming through.
“The level of skating continues to rise every year, and we’re proud to provide a platform where established riders and emerging talent can compete, progress and showcase what South African skateboarding has to offer.”
