New Brighton Beach Neglect

29 May 2023 By Port Elizabethan

Dear Editor

It is insulting that the eponymous New Brighton Beach is so neglected for a giant pothole at its entrance not yet been reported, let alone being fixed by now. The general squalor of its ablution facilities became a them-and-us Yo-Yo political game long time ago, the non-functional floodlights and Beirut-inspired pier being a typical “clever blacks” concerns to politicians that are anathema to upkeep and/or maintenance.

My main gripe is the money and late payment rates we are paying for municipal services, with prepaid electricity being an easy medium for siphoning extra cash from supposed tardy payment period; resulting in frustratingly low meter box amount being available for loading.

That blanket punitive measure would have been acceptable if the Nelson Mandela Metro’s traffic lights were functional, road upkeep + maintenance were on point and, of course, the likes of New Brighton Beach were treated like the cherished axis it really is as being factually flanked by the Port of Ngqurha and Port of Port Elizabeth.

Regards

Luyanda Marlon Kama
