New Airline Touches Down at Port Elizabeth Airport

5 November 2011 By Alan Straton

Velvet Sky Airline – South Africa’s first 100% BEE airline’s touched down (according to my watch) at 3:17:08 on Friday 4 November 2011 on their inaugral flight from Durban to Port Elizabeth.

There to greet the flight was the NMB Executive Mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile, various members of the Mayoral Committee and, representing NMBT, Mandlakazi Skefile.

A traditional water cannon spray greeted the new kid on the block as it taxied to it’s resting place.

Captain Paul Green (Yup, he of Paul Green Masts fame, fellow yachties!) was the Flight Captain of Record for this historic occasion in the young life of Velvet Sky Airlines who have a catchy and familiar tag line; “Be Flown Away”. Now I could go on about the purple colour, throw in some cheesy 70’s music and swop the ‘F’ for a ‘B’ but this is a family publication ……….. Sjoe – glad I got that out of my system!

At present Velvet Sky are offering some good deals on fares for those who get in quick with one way ticket prices ranging from R439.00.
