NEUTRAL PLEASE – Featured Blog

16 February 2017 By Port Elizabethan

Today’s posts from our featured Port Elizabeth Blogger:

NEUTRAL PLEASE:

Hi there.

Im glad you stopped by.

Firstly, seasons greetings to you!!

As we enter into the festive season, I’d like to wish you a safe and very festive, festive season!

Secondly, how lovely is it to finally be getting a little bit of a break? I for one am incredibly excited to be going on holiday. This has been one INTENSE year, to say the least.

This year has seen many changes in styles, in fashions and in appeal.

This year has certainly seen a great evolution in me and my personal style. One I’m quite proud of.

Before I bore you with my assesses, let me go on to tell you more about this look:

grey

This look is a typical look for me. I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE my neutral colours. Grey happens to be my happy colour. Ironic I know, but let me be.

Here I’m wearing an all grey ensemble, where I added a Taupe (the colour) handbag, and matching shoes to distract the eye from the grey.

I thought I was quite clever to match one neutral with another, that way no one colour would over-power the other, and you get to see the distinct palettes of each colour.

Since I find myself in different shades and colours of “neutral” more often than not, I’ll let you know how I make it work :

1. I never wear a solid neutral without breaking it in one way or another. Whether it be with different coloured jewelry or a different coloured shoe or purse/handbag.
2. I tend to keep my outfits very subtle. By this I mean, my general outfit consists of the top, skirt/pants, shoes and the handbag. I don’t have many extras. (The more you have on, the easier people get distracted by what you’ve got on).
3. Don’t be afraid to try out different colours. Seriously, try out an orange or a yellow sometime. These summer colours look AMAZING against your skin once you try them out. These colours aren’t in season for no reason!( Please note; I’m saying this to myself as well)

Let me know your neutral struggles and joys. ( Comment below)

See you next week!

Xx

WEEKENDS WORKING:

Greetings everyone, and a Happy Friday to you!

I’d like to share a few Weekend Working fashion tips with you.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve had to work over the weekend, whether it be attending events, photoshoots, workshops… etc.

Now, at one of the events I attended, a fellow blogger complimented me on my outfit and told me her friends were waiting on a report back of what I was wearing. I thought this was hilarious, but it was at that moment I realized that people seriously watch what I wear ( Funnily enough, that hadn’t really occurred to me) .

weekend working

Many people don’t know this but I actually pre-plan my outfits a day or two in advance to minimize my ” getting ready” anxiety.

How the pre planning works:

  • I decide whether I’ll be wearing pants, or a skirt/dress. Very important (to me) since certain events have certain themes (usually unsaid, but there’s a general theme to events i.e casual, corporate, high fashion etc.)
  • I figure out a general colour scheme, also based on the event theme.
  • Depending on how long the event will be AND depending on how long I’ll be on my feet, I pick out my shoe options ( not generally based on comfort, but more on look- hence I need to figure out how long I’ll be on my feet.)

I then narrow down the options to two looks and on the day of the event, the weather and my general feeling and mood will determine the outfit choice. Yes, thats how most girls figure out what to wear, MOOD plays a huge role in the decision making process.

This was the outfit I wore to this past weekends event. It was the first Blogger Meets Brand Port Elizabeth event, hosted by Sam Posselt also known as The Speaker Of Hashtags (creator of #SaBlogTribe)

This, to me falls under the category “casual”. Its very simple , easy and fashionable. On this particular day, I woke up and tried to figure out WHY ON EARTH AM I WORKING ON A SATURDAY, AGAIN. And so this outfit won the toss up. It was a huge representation of my mood that morning.

Luckily for me, “Fashionable” is a pre-set theme so whatever my mood, “fashionable” always plays out. Haha..

I completed the look with a beautiful halo braid, accompanied with very light make-up.

To all of you working this weekend, I feel your pain.
