Nelson Mandela Bay to Host the 2025 Africa Triathlon Championships in a Historic First for the Eastern Cape

Gqeberha, South Africa – The vibrant region of Nelson Mandela Bay has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Africa Triathlon Championships, marking the first time this high-profile continental event will be hosted in the Eastern Cape.

From April 4th to 6th, 2025, the city will welcome top athletes from over 30 countries to compete in a weekend packed with thrilling races, showcasing the region’s ability to host world-class sporting events.

The championship weekend, sponsored by Old Mutual Wealth, will feature six major continental events, providing a dynamic lineup of elite and youth races that promise to captivate both participants and spectators.

The event is managed by Zsports Events SA in collaboration with NMB Triathlon and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, who are working together to deliver an unparalleled experience for athletes and fans alike. This milestone not only brings global recognition to the city but also reinforces Nelson Mandela Bay’s reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events in South Africa.

The partnership with Old Mutual Wealth has been instrumental in boosting the profile of triathlon in South Africa, setting a strong foundation for international recognition. Through their ongoing collaboration with Zsports Events SA and the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Old Mutual Wealth has supported the elevation of local triathlon events from the 2022 South African Championships to the 2023 Africa Cup and 2024 Africa Premium Cup, culminating in the prestigious Africa Triathlon Championships in 2025. With continued support, the goal is to further elevate the profile of Nelson Mandela Bay by hosting a World Cup event in 2026, bringing even greater attention to the region’s potential as a premier sporting destination.
