Nelson Mandela Bay City Manager resigns

1 August 2013 By Alan Straton

The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber announced on the evening of 31 July that it had reliably learned that Nelson Mandela Bay City Manager, Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela, has resigned with immediate effect.

Mandla Madwara, Chamber president and Kevin Hustler, CEO, issued the following statement regarding the resignation:

The president of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, Mr Mandla Madwara, has come out strongly with Mr Kevin Hustler, CEO of the Business Chamber, over the resignation of City Manager, Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela.

“As the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, we are deeply disappointed to hear of the resignation with immediate effect of Dr Lindiwe Msengana-Ndlela as City Manager for Nelson Mandela Bay.

As the business community, we feel that this is a tremendous setback for the city as a whole. We looked forward to proactive and effective engagement with the office of the City Manager as a key and pivotal administrator within the city, as well as to the permanent appointment of executives that would have followed.

Our plea to the leadership of the city, as well as to MEC Qoboshiyane, is to act speedily to find a solution to this impasse, as we cannot afford to continue without a permanent City Manager.

This situation does not bode well for continuity, consistency or good governance, and it impacts heavily on the confidence of both business and the citizens of this Metro.”
